"Magic Drops” is an opening salvo that draws heavily on one of Jam City‘s major influences – early Grime production. The track’s distinctive gliding square lead is a Wileyism that Jam puts to use alongside Hyphy hydraulics and 808 booms aimed straight at the dancefloor. Just when this startling groove begins to feel familiar, a sparkling sunrise of keys flood the track with unexpected glow.
Next comes sister track “Scene Girl”, which borrows the pumping piston drums of the title cut, this time set to dirty makout sawtooths, moans and whimpers.
The EP closes with “2 Hot”, the most atmospheric of the three. Keeping in line with the halftime groove, this is a mesh of droning melodies and trance synths that gather like thunderclouds.
